Set in the 1920s, this season follows four women from different backgrounds as they work as newly hired operators for a phone company. As their lives intersect on and off the switchboard, they face choices, pacts, jealousy, guilt, secrets, loneliness, opportunities and questions of innocence while trying to find their place in a changing world.
