An aging bartender keeps the world at a distance, shaped by misanthropy and a deep streak of cynicism. When he begins caring for his estranged wife, their uneasy connection starts to shift, pushing them both beyond the bitterness that has defined them. At the same time, he forms a friendship with an impressionable young woman who is only beginning to discover that same cynical view of life.
