In an alternate present-day society, the state has taken over the work of raising children, promising to free parents from the burden of parenthood. Within this system, a rule enforcer helps uphold the order that keeps families apart from that responsibility. But when she uncovers a shocking truth about the world she serves, her certainty begins to fracture, pushing her toward rebellion against the society she once protected.
