Claire Darrow is a single mother and lawyer who believes in doing what is right, even when it does not pay. When a close friend is convicted of stealing from a high-end jewelry store, Claire takes on the fight for justice. At the same time, she clashes with Naomi, her estranged mother and fellow lawyer, whose focus on profit extends to disagreements over how Claire raises her daughter, Louise.
